Six 2021 master bathroom design trends that are here to stay

Luxury master bathThe master bathroom is one of the busiest rooms in the house, so it stands to reason that when it comes to design, functionality and practicality should be at the top of the list.

While this will never change, today another feature is rising high on that list: luxury. And why not? After all, it’s entirely possible to have a master bathroom that’s as functional as it is a haven for relaxation after a hard day’s work.

If you’re looking to create a beautiful master bathroom for your custom home, take a look at six bathroom design trends in 2021 that are definitely here to stay.

An emphasis on luxury. Let’s say luxury with a capitol “L.” Today’s custom homeowners want a sanctuary where they can relax, unwind, and indulge after a long day. And one of the best places in the home to create a luxurious oasis is the master bathroom.

So, just where do you start? Begin with therapeutic touches like steam showers and multiple showerheads and choose cool subdued colors and soft bath towels made from natural fibers.

You could also opt to build a small sauna or steam room adjacent or within the master bathroom or add a soaking tub (more on this below).

Soaking tubs. We love freestanding soaking tubs for a couple of reasons. First, they’re a wonderful way to create a beautiful centerpiece in the bathroom, Soaking tubs come in a variety of styles, so it should be easy to find one (or several) that will match your bathroom’s design aesthetic.

They’re also much larger than traditional tubs. While most bathtubs are around 25 inches in height, most soaking tubs are about 90 inches in height. That means you’ll have plenty of space to relax and unwind.

Floating vanities. One of the hallmarks of an elegant, luxury master bathroom is the emphasis on clean lines and simplicity. A great way to achieve this is with a floating vanity. These can be customized for your bathroom, so it blends seamlessly with its décor. Additionally, floating vanities can add more space in the bathroom to create an airy, clean vibe.

Backlit mirrors. Mirrors are one of the simplest ways to add a modern and sophisticated look to your bathrooms. They’re statement pieces, for sure, but they are also functional. Without the glare of overhead lighting, you can see yourself much better. And they can be used for ambient lighting or as a nightlight thanks to the dimmer.

Heated flooring. Have you ever delayed getting out of the shower or bath because you don’t want to step on the cold floor? Here’s where heated flooring comes in, and if you’re building a custom home, the timing couldn’t be better.

There are various types of radiant heat flooring, and the installation process for each can be a bit involved and time consuming, which is why adding it to a new home can be easier than installing it in an older one. But the benefits of radiant flooring are significant. First, it can raise the resale value of your home, and the flooring is fully customizable and safe. It’s also maintenance free.

Marble. You don’t have to visit the Ritz Carlton to take advantage of bathroom filled with marble. All you have to do is install it in your own custom home. While marble is always a popular choice among homeowners, it’s being used in bathrooms now more than ever.

Not only is marble beautiful, it’s also incredibly durable. Use it for your master bathroom’s floors, on the walls, in the shower, as a backsplash or any other area you want to accent.
